This week I thoroughly enjoyed…
It started off with a production meeting. In order to be able to start blocking the actors we needed to discuss how we wanted things to look. We debated the topic of having boxes or not, how the set would look, how the actors would look with the set and lighting. When we came to some sort of understanding we started blocking. To my surprise blocking physical theatre takes doubly if not triply a longer time. At first I thought that we were just wasting time discussing things and taking up half a lesson before blocking but then i realised we wouldn’t be able to without the discussion.
I can already see characters coming through really well in Sohie and the Guide as they already send shivers up my spine.
I liked Lisa’s idea of accents but i think that if we worry about it too much it may take away too much of the audience’s concentrate if it’s too strong, so maybe we could all me Aussie in the void?
To me, Alex came across as an over-confident man who was ready for anything and made it look like he was scared of nothing. He was always striving for his dreams and achievements letting nothing get in the way. I think he loved Nia, but in the end he realises that he loved her only because he wanted to- maybe not being true love…”It is a real revelation for bothto find out their true feelings for eachother. This makes their choice of a joint Nirvana impossible.” Thanks to http://www.britishtheatreguide.info/reviews/100-rev.htm
I think the Guide has already started to come across as a scary yet sensitive character. And in the start I think Alex is almost reluctant to get to know Ketu as he thinks he is a loop. He talks to Sophie only because he can relate her but as soon as she starts to talk about her scar he thinks she is a bit weird too. Basically he knows there are others around him but he’d rather do what he wants to.
Audiowise-Jared i went through my CD’s and found and African mixed album and i think i might have the 100 theme song. It’s not on the computer yet so we’l have to have a listen…
As time progresses I think all we will need is focus and teamwork. Once we all start agreeing on things and know what every single person is doing at every single moment things will be a lot easier. We all just need to focus and worry about ourselves.
I saw Alex as a man based in London but travelled around Europe on his motorbike. Which was how he could relate to Nia. But I also saw him as a dominant character who always liked to lead in a relationship and know where it was going.
I liked looking at the photos taken of the theatre so that we could already visualise what was going on around us. When you have a vision and you can already see it in your mind it’s not so bad once you actually get there. Plus we cann add on ideas.
Lighting ideas are cool with the whole making things lighter and darker. I think either make the void lighter EG ‘i can see the light” which is what people think of ‘almost there’. Or we could make it a dark void. Depending on how we costume the actors. I think the actors all need to look the same, opposite to the Guide. But the characters also need to have an individual piece that shows who each character is.
We have a lot more work to cover. I can see lunchtime rehearsals coming…thanks to school photos. Grrrrrr!
Ok wel thats all i can really say but this week I hope to post a lot more comments.Â
